At Carol Lang Interiors, we believe that great processes deliver great design projects.

In our years in business, we have found that by following this process, we ensure that all of your needs are met, all of your questions are answered, the service and design are exactly what you want, and we stay aligned throughout.

 

At all steps, we value and respect your honest feedback. We may love something, but you will be the one to live with it, so please be honest! We’re here to serve you and want to be sure you’re getting the space of your dreams.

STEP 1: THE DISCOVERY CALL

All of our projects big or small start with a discovery call. In this complimentary 15 minute call, we’ll get to know each other and determine if the relationship is a good fit. We’ll review your specific needs, expectations, timeline, and budget.

 

Don’t worry about barking dogs or noisy kids in the background - that’s life and that’s who we’re designing for, too! If you’d like to move forward, we will set up an in-person or virtual design consultation where we can talk in greater depth about your project and review the space together.

Meeting

STEP 2: DESIGN CONSULTATION

During the design consultation, please ask us anything about your spaces; nothing design related is off limits! We encourage any of the key decision makers to participate in this meeting so we can be sure we’re meeting everyone’s needs. Because we consider this a pre-project meeting, there is a fee for the consultation which we will discuss during the discovery call.

After the consultation, we will provide you with an estimate with our full scope of design services so that you are aware of the investment before making that final commitment. With the estimate, we will also present a project schedule with major milestones, including preliminary dates for the design presentations described below. Aligning our schedules and setting targets helps keep our project on track, so we do it at the outset to ensure we are aligned in our timeframes and goals.

STEP 3: CONCEPT & SCHEMATIC DESIGN

In this phase, we’ll roll up our sleeves and get to work! We group these two phases together, because they set the tone for the rest of the project. To prepare for the concept and schematic design meetings, we will learn as much about the project as possible including taking measurements, reviewing drawings and inspiration images, and documenting existing items that you want to incorporate in your new spaces. Once we’ve done this behind the scenes work, we’ll move into our first design meeting!

At the concept design meeting, we will present you with a ballpark project budget estimate and initial design concepts based on our conversations to make sure we are aligned with the direction for the project. The concept design is big picture - color stories, types of furniture, style decisions, adjacencies and more. Once we’re sure we’re in alignment, we will refine the design to prepare for our schematic design presentation. 

At the schematic design presentation, we get into the details. We will present plans, elevations, renderings and/or mood boards that will include images of furniture and finishes. We’ll bring samples of materials when applicable and cuts of fixtures. We hope you’ll love everything we choose, but there are always tweaks!

STEP 4: DESIGN DEVELOPMENT & DOCUMENTATION

Once the design direction has been discussed and approved in our schematic design meeting, we then start to refine details. We provide you with a final design presentation that includes an itemized proposal including specifications and pricing. This is the final step before our plans are put into action.

STEP 5: PURCHASING & PROJECT MANAGEMENT

We keep you in the loop, but you never need to stress about the details. Each Friday, we’ll send a progress email to keep you apprised of schedule updates, any decisions we need to chat about, and project milestones. We work with the contractor, architect, vendors, and installers to put all the pieces in place and present a clear timeline to you at the outset.

 

We front load the planning and decision making so that this step goes as smoothly as possible. If this last year has taught us anything, it’s that there are sometimes unexpected hiccups, but we will be there every step of the way to communicate with you, solve problems, and ensure the end result aligns with your goals.

STEP 6: FINISHING TOUCHES & INSTALLATION

We love our trusted installers and white-glove delivery team, and know you will too. Furniture will arrive for install day from our warehouse, so you’ll have the fun of a big reveal. Accessories and final details are selected to complete your space. After this - it’s all yours for you and your family to enjoy!
