Associate Designer

Location: Majority remote, preference for hybrid position and candidate to be local to Fair Haven, NJ                      

Level/Salary Range: Part Time (20 hours/week)

JOB OVERVIEW

 

The Associate Designer at Carol Lang Interiors is responsible for performing as part of the design team. This position takes direction from the Principal Designer and works independently and collaboratively to manage all aspects of client design projects using both creative and technical skills. Ideal candidates will have a strength in furniture & fixture sourcing, finish knowledge, and room layouts. 

 

KEY DUTIES

 

Provide overall support to client projects with floor plans, selections, drawings, and design tasks. Duties may include:

 

  • Assist in planning and interpreting projects through all phases of development including initial client meeting, floor planning, design development, construction and documents, project management

  • Coordinate and schedule all client meetings and communicate with clients, vendors, contractors, architects, and other members of the project team as directed by the Principal Designer

  • Create and maintain documentation for all projects, including selection sheets, Chief Architect plans, and schedules

  • Research products and source furnishings, lighting, accessories, fixtures, finishes, material options, and reselections, as instructed by Principal Designer

  • Render design ideas in form of boards, drawings, or illustrations, estimates, material requirements, and costs, and present designs to Principal Designer for approval

  • Assist in coordinating the day-to-day needs of the project through other design and administrative staff assigned to the project

  • Create product pricing in product management system 

  • Complete weekly status reports for clients in collaboration Principal Designer as well as provide other updates including meeting notes and site visits

  • Assist with preparation for installations and photoshoots

  • Assist on photoshoot day

  • Assist on install day

  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors to manage punch list as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Solid knowledge of the design industry

  • 2-4 year degree in Interior Design

  • 2-4 years working in a design firm

  • Strength in furniture / fixture sourcing, finish knowledge,  and room layout

  • Proficiency in communicating professionally with clients, contractors, and vendors

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle many projects at once all at various stages of the design process

  • Professional, reliable, and punctual

  • Detail-oriented and able to operate effectively in a team environment as well as independently with minimal direction and supervision

  • Excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities

  • Able to work efficiently and effectively under deadlines

  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle

  • Work on-site, in the office, and in clients’ homes following COVID-19 best-practices and protocols as outlined by Carol Lang Interiors

  • Utilize computer software including MyDoma Studio, Chief Architect, Canva, Asana, and InDesign. 

    • Note: Will train in specific computer software programs that may be new to you as long as you have previous architectural software drawing experience.

ADDITIONAL

 

Travel: some travel may be required for local projects 

Location: Majority remote, library access available at 1 Forrest Avenue, Fair Haven, NJ 07704. Full-time remote will be considered in EST, but preference is to NJ-based candidates who can attend onsite meetings. 

Hours: 20 hours per week M-F, no weekend work. Summer Fridays (from Memorial Day to Labor Day) Carol Lang Interiors will be closed

Rate: Hourly at rate commensurate to experience, but no less than $30/hour for a candidate who meets all the above criteria
